  • Ulugh Beg Madrasah

  • Sher-Dor Madrasah

  • Tilla-Kari Madrasah

2. Gur-e-Amir

Gur-e-Amir is a masterpiece of medieval Central Asian architecture and serves as the final resting place of the great conqueror Tamerlane.

  • Resting Place of Titans: The mausoleum contains the tombs of Amir Timur (Tamerlane), his sons, and his grandsons, including the legendary astronomer Ulugh Beg.

  • Architectural Icon: The building is world-renowned for its magnificent azure-blue ribbed dome, which is a signature landmark of Samarkand.

⏳ Duration: 40 minutes

3. The Bibi-Khanym Mosque

The Bibi-Khanym Mosque is one of the most impressive historical landmarks in Samarkand and a centerpiece of your cultural tour. It stands as a symbol of Amir Timur’s (Tamerlane’s) power and his ambition to create the most magnificent mosque in the Islamic world after his successful campaign in India.

⏳ Duration: 30 minutes

5. Traditional Uzbek Lunch

Enjoy authentic Uzbek cuisine, including the famous Samarkand plov, at a local restaurant.

6. Shah-i-Zinda

Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis is an extraordinary "avenue of mausoleums" and one of Samarkand’s most sacred sites. This architectural complex evolved over more than eight centuries and showcases the pinnacle of medieval ceramic art.

  • The Living King: The name "Shah-i-Zinda" means "The Living King," referring to the legend of Kusam ibn Abbas, a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, whose shrine is the spiritual heart of the complex.

  • A Mosaic Masterpiece: It is world-famous for its breathtaking blue-on-blue tilework. The mausoleums are covered in intricate majolica, mosaic tiles, and terracotta in every imaginable shade of azure, turquoise, and sapphire.

  • Architectural Evolution: Walking up the steps feels like traveling through time, as you pass tombs built by different rulers, architects, and artists from the 9th to the 19th centuries.

  • A Photographer’s Dream: The narrow corridor created by the towering, highly-decorated portals offers some of the most stunning visual perspectives in all of Central Asia.

⏳ Duration: 1 hour

7. Ulugh Beg Observatory

The Ulugh Beg Observatory is a testament to the scientific golden age of Samarkand. Built in the 1420s by the astronomer-king Ulugh Beg (grandson of Tamerlane), it was one of the most advanced astronomical research centers in the medieval world.

  • The Giant Sextant: The centerpiece of the site is the remains of a massive stone quadrant (sextant) with a radius of 40 meters. It was used to measure the positions of stars and planets with incredible precision.

  • Scientific Breakthroughs: Using this observatory, Ulugh Beg and his team of scholars compiled the "Zij-i-Sultani," a star catalogue describing 1,018 stars—the most accurate map of the sky for centuries.

  • The Star King: Learn about the life of Ulugh Beg, a ruler who famously said, "Religions dissipate like fog, but works of science remain for all time."

  • On-Site Museum: The complex includes a museum featuring ancient astronomical instruments, manuscripts, and a scale model of what the original three-story observatory looked like.
